Folk & Celtic Music Society - Phone 419-884-5116 - Email highlands@neo.rr.com

HIGHLANDS OF OHIO Folk and Celtic Music Society came into existence in the summer of 1999.  Prior to that time it was a rarity for live Celtic or folk music to be found in the north central part of Ohio.  One generally had to travel to Cleveland or Columbus in hopes of finding such music.

Melanie Seaman and Fate Christian decided to try an experiment and host several live music events in the north central Ohio area.  The events were very well received and there was considerable encouragement to continue having live Celtic and folk music concerts.  At first, plans were made to have concerts on a quarterly basis, but attendance and demand quickly suggested that they be held more often.  So, they became monthly events and sometimes several a month and using a variety of venues.

Local performers from Ohio, from all parts of the U.S., and numerous international artists have all been featured at Highlands of Ohio events.  There has been strong interest in these performers for returning for future concerts because of the charm of the venues, the warmth and enthusiasm of the audiences, and the care and consideration given them during their visits.

It would be easy to assume that “Highlands of Ohio” might have a staff of people responsible for various duties, and such is the case with many music organizations.  However, this could increase the cost of presenting shows, raising ticket prices.  So Highlands of Ohio has always been - Melanie and Fate.

Highlands of Ohio is a not-for-profit organization and depends almost entirely upon ticket sales for the continuation of its activities.
